BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Sophomore pitcher Courtney Roberts was named Crons Brand co-pitcher of the week along with Kiana Quolas of Coastal Carolina.
Roberts pitched 9.2 innings in two appearances in the USF UnderArmour Invitational. The right hander was 1-0 and threw a seven inning no-hitter against Villanova. The South Carolina native did not allow an earned run in her two appearances on the weekend.
“Courtney went into the Villanova game with something to prove. After a great freshman year, she is no longer an unknown pitcher so she is working on reestablishing herself for her sophomore year,” said pitching coach Brittany Lee. “Her competiveness is a huge reason she was able to accomplish what she did this week.”
Roberts has an overall 3-2 record with a 2.60 ERA in 40.1 innings of work. She has struck out 18 batters, and opponents are hitting .190 against her. Roberts has two complete game efforts on the season.
CU travels to Knoxville, Tenn. to participate in Tennessee Invitational March 7-8.
