Spartanburg, S.C.
– USC Upstate standout outfielder Shellie Robinson has been named the A-Sun Player of the Week for the second consecutive week after belting four home runs and leading the Spartans to a 5-0 week, including a sweep of A-Sun foe Jacksonville.

Robinson became the first player to win player of the week honors from the A-Sun in back-to-back weeks since Lipscomb’s Mollie Mitchell earned back-to-back weekly honors in 2010.

“Shellie continues to be one of our leaders at the plate and had another great week,” said Upstate head coach Chris Hawkins, who secured career win No. 700 with Sunday’s victory over Jacksonville. “She just continues to deliver for us. I thought she came through for us when we needed her in the first game against Jacksonville and made a statement in the second game. I am excited about everything she has accomplished so far, all of the honors she has earned for herself, and for what we expect will be more to come in the future.”

Robinson earned player of the week honors after leading Upstate to a doubleheader sweep of Charleston Southern on Tuesday and a three-game sweep of Jacksonville in the A-Sun opener for both teams. She hit .471 with eight hits, four home runs, 10 RBIs and six runs. She began the week by collecting a pair of hits, RBIs and runs in the sweep at Charleston Southern. She finished the week by turning in a monster performance against Jacksonville.

Robinson began the weekend by going 2-for-3 with a solo home run in the 5-3 victory over Jacksonville in the first game of the series Saturday. She then went 3-for-3 with five RBIs and two runs with two home runs in the 8-1 victory over the Dolphins in the second game of the series Saturday. She was also intentionally walked in the game. She was intentionally walked once in Sunday’s series finale, a 6-0 victory, finishing the game 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run. In all, she had six hits with three home runs, eight RBIs and four runs in the sweep of the Dolphins.

Robinson has now earned A-Sun Player of the Week honors six times. She owns the most player of the week honors in program history and ranks second all-time overall at Upstate behind the nine A-Sun Pitcher of the Week selections by all-time great Morgan Childers.
