FRISCO, Texas – Northwestern State senior first baseman Brianna Rodriguez was named Southland Conference Softball Hitter of the Week while McNeese State’s sophomore Jamie Allred was named the Southland Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
Hitter of the Week – Brianna Rodriguez, Northwestern State
Rodriguez, a senior from Rowlett, Texas (Rowlett H.S.), earned her first weekly award after pacing the Northwestern State offense last week to help the Lady Demons win their series 2-1 against Central Arkansas. In three games, she hit .727 (8-for-11) with an impressive 1.000 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage. Rodriguez picked up five RBI, including a home run in game two against the Bears.
Honorable Mention: Candyce Carter, Lamar; Kim Kennedy, McNeese State; Kirsten Schwirtlich, Houston Baptist.
Pitcher of the Week – Jamie Allred, McNeese State
Allred picked up her fifth weekly award after going 3-0 in the circle last week, including two shutouts against UIW. On Wednesday, the sophomore from Hallsville, Texas (Hallsville H.S.), picked up a 2-1 win against LSU, her third victory against an SEC opponent this season. Allred helped the Cowgirls win their series against the Cardinals with an 8-0 victory Saturday, followed by a 10-0 win Sunday. She pitched 20 innings overall and finished the week with a 0.00 ERA and 21 strikeouts.
