Seminole Softball Announces 30th Anniversary Reunion

Historic program will commemorate 30 years of fastpitch softball with a celebration during the annual ‘Let us Play’ weekend on Sept. 20-21

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (seminoles.com) – Florida State softball head coach Lonni Alameda has announced a 30th Anniversary Reunion celebrating the program’s historic fastpitch era that began in 1984. The reunion, which will include several alumnae, is scheduled to take place during the ‘Let Us Play’ weekend on Sept. 20-21.

“We are thrilled to have an opportunity to re-connect with so many players and coaches from the past who helped pave the way for us today,” Alameda said. “Once you wear the Garnet and Gold you always have a part of Florida State with you, and to organize something that will bring back alumnae to a place that means so much to them is very special.”

The reunion occurs during Florida State football’s home weekend against Bethune-Cookman, which does not have an announced start time just yet for Saturday, Sept. 21.

The fun-filled weekend begins with the fifth annual ‘Let Us Play’ Women’s Scholarship Endowment Event on Friday, Sept. 20 at 5:30 p.m. The event, which is hosted by the Florida State Varsity Club, includes a ‘Let Us Play’ auction and appetizers event to start the early evening. The auction ends at 8 p.m.

Last year’s ‘Let Us Play’ auction helped raise over $60,000 to benefit the women’s scholarship endowment fund.

On Saturday a large tailgate will be held at the renowned Seminole Softball Complex prior to the Florida State-Bethune-Cookman football game. A $25 registration is required and includes two tickets to the tailgate party.

Alumnae who are interested in attending the Florida State Softball 30th Anniversary Reunion may RSVP to Betsy Hosey of the Varsity Club by Sept. 6, 2013 at bhosey@fsu.edu. RSVP and hotel reservation forms are available on Seminoles.com.

Florida State softball is home to two AIAW national titles in 1981 and 1982, 11 Atlantic Coast Conference championships and seven Women’s College World Series appearances. The selection of rising junior pitcher Lacey Waldrop as an NFCA Third-Team All-American this past June gives the program 26 All-Americans overall.
