Sierra Romero Joins Oregon Coaching Staff As Volunteer Coach
New Oregon Head Coach Melyssa Lombardi made another splash by bringing in former Michigan great Sierra Romero as a volunteer coach. It is the second hire Lombardi has made in the last week as over the weekend, Lombardi hired Justin Shults to be the hitting coach.
I am very excited for this opportunity to bring my personal experiences to the game from a different perspective,” said Romero in Oregon press release. “I look forward to learning from such an amazing coaching staff and working with a great group of talented young women.”

Romero, the first four-time all-American in Michigan program history from 2013 to 2016, joins the Ducks after dominating in the National Pro Fastpitch league while playing for the USSSA Pride the past three seasons. Romero earned All-NPF honors once again for the Pride on Wednesday night and is getting ready to play in the NPF Championship Series against the Chicago Bandits.

Sierra has an impeccable work ethic, excellent leadership skills and a competitive edge that creates a positive influence on those around her. Sierra is a great addition to our program, and I am looking forward to watching her growth as a coach.”
Lombardi hires have all had ties to Oklahoma as Sierra’s younger sister, Sydney, played under Lombardi for three years at Oklahoma (2016-2018) and will be a senior for the Sooners in 2018. Justin’s younger sister Jessica played for Lombardi at Oklahoma and is currently an assistant coach at Houston.
Lombardi was an assistant coach at Oklahoma for 21 years before getting hired in early July to become the new Oregon Head Coach replacing Mike White who left for the Texas job.
