TERRE HAUTE, Ind.—After earning MVP honors at the Tiger Classic in Nashville, Tenn. this past weekend, sophomore Taylor Lockwood has been named Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher Of The Week the league office announced Monday.

“Taylor has a great work ethic and brings a positive attitude each day,” head coach Shane Bouman said. “She is fun to be around and when you do not give up a run, great things happen.”

Lockwood was named MVP of the All-Tournament team and led the Sycamore pitching staff over the weekend at the Tiger Classic. Lockwood finished the weekend with a perfect 0.00 ERA in three appearances and 2-0 record over 13.2 innings pitched and struck out 11 batters. In the final game of the tournament, Lockwood pitched a complete game shutout over host Tennessee State. The Sycamores won all four games they played in the Tiger Classic and are now 5-3 on the season.

Lockwood is the first Sycamore player to earn an MVC weekly award in 2014 and the first since Megan Stone was named player of the week on March 25, 2013. Lockwood is also the first Sycamore pitcher to earn Pitcher of the Week since Lindsey Beisser won the award twice during the 2012 season.

A native of Indianapolis, Ind., Lockwood comes to Indiana State after one season at Bulter University.
