Three LSU Softball Signees Named MaxPreps All-Americans

By: Matt Dunaway – Associate Sports Information Director, LSU

BATON ROUGE – LSU softball signees Baylee Corbello, Sahvanna Jaquish and Bailey Landry came away with MaxPreps All-American accolades as announced by the organization. Jaquish was one of 30 players to secure a first-team selection, while Corbello and Landry collected second-team honors.

Corbello, the reigning two-time Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year, led Sam Houston High School in Lake Charles to its second straight Louisiana Class 5A state championship. She returned from injury to win all seven of her decisions and rack up 122 strikeovers with a 0.32 ERA in 65 innings of work.

Jaquish, the Citrus Belt League co-MVP and CIF-Southern Section Division 2 First-Team pick, posted a .548 batting average accompanied by 11 home runs and 48 RBIs. All three of those marks paced her league and ranked among California’s Top 25. Her Redlands East Valley squad went undefeated en route to a league championship.

Landry, also an NFCA High School First-Team All-American, garnered a .537 batting average to go along with eight homers and 28 RBIs. She has tallied three Louisiana All-State selections during her career at East Ascension High School.

Last season, LSU had Corbello and Jaquish along with Bianka Bell and Kelsee Selman pick up MaxPreps All-America status. Corbello, Jaquish and Selman will join the Tigers as freshmen for the 2014 season.

LSU finished its second season under head coach Beth Torina with the program’s 15th 40-win season since softball was reinstated in 1997. The Tigers are slated to return 16 letterwinners sparked by A.J. Andrews, an NFCA All-America Third-Team and All-SEC First-Team selection, along with Bianka Bell and Jacee Blades, a pair of 2013 All-SEC Second-Team picks.
