NEW ORLEANS – Western Kentucky University softball freshman Hannah Miniard was named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week after tossing her first career no-hitter on Saturday against UT Arlington.
Miniard led WKU to a pair of wins in the sweep over UTA. She threw her no-hitter in game two versus the Mavs, as WKU has now had two no-no wins in Sun Belt Conference action this season. Senior Emily Rousseau also threw her first career no-hitter the prior week in a win versus Troy.
Miniard struck out a season-high 12 batters in game three to total 21 over the two complete games pitched. UTA’s only runs came off of a home run after Miniard held the team scoreless for 9 and 2/3 innings. She allowed just four hits and had a 1.00 ERA.
It is Miniard’s first-ever SBC weekly award this season and the second-straight week that a WKU pitcher was given the honor after Rousseau earned it last week.
WKU is back in action on Wednesday with a 5 p.m. contest against Middle Tennessee in Bowling Green. The Lady Toppers then take on nationally-ranked Louisiana-Lafayette for a three-game SBC series starting with a doubleheader on Saturday.
