Elimination Game 2: Florida State vs. Georgia

In the second elimination game of the day, FSU starting pitcher Meghan King and Georgia starting pitcher Mary Wilson Avant made quick work in the first inning of play.

The Bulldogs put two runners on base in the top of the first but stranded them. Florida State led off the bottom of the second with a leadoff walk and a sacrifice bunt moved the runner to second. With two outs, Zoe Casas launched a ball off the center field wall, scoring the runner and claiming the 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the fourth, FSU led off the inning with a lead-off walk. A stolen base would move the runner to second. Dani Morgan stepped up to the plate and punched a ground ball through the 5-6 hole, advancing the runner to third. Another stolen base put Seminole runners on second and third with no outs. Cali Harrod walked to load the bases, bringing up Casas. A base hit up the middle by Casas scored two more runs, making it 3-0 FSU. With one out and runners on second and third, a sac fly to right field scored another run making it 4-0.

With two Bulldog base runners on, in the bottom of the fifth, Ciara Bryan lifted a ball to deep right field that hit off the wall, scoring the two runners and cutting the lead in half. This brought Alyssa DiCarlo to the plate. The junior drew a four pitch walk, loading the bases. King went right at Alysen Febrey and retired her on a fly out to left to end the inning with minimal damage.

In the bottom of the fifth with runners on second and third with one out, FSU’s Dani Morgan delivered a base hit to right field scoring both base runners.

Meghan King shut things down for the Seminoles on defense to get her offense back in the box in the bottom of the sixth. After two FSU hitters reached base, Carsyn Gordon drew a full-count walk to load the bases with one out. Sydney Sherrill went with an 0-2 pitch and flared it out to left field to record the second out. Anna Shelnutt was hit by a pitch in her 3-2 count at bat, which scored another run making the score 7-2. A fly ball to center would end the inning.

King closed the door in the bottom of the seventh to pick up the victory. Florida State moves on in the Loser Bracket and will face Oregon tonight at 8:30 p.m.
