WSU’s Floyd and CSU’s Radjen Collect Horizon League Honors

INDIANAPOLIS –Wright State sophomore Hanna Floyd (Minster, Ohio) is the Horizon League softball Player of the Week, while Cleveland State junior Alex Radjen (Broadview Heights, Ohio) is the Horizon League softball Pitcher of the Week for the week of April 21-27. This is the first League accolade for Floyd and third for Radjen this season.

The Wright State softball team hosted league-leading Valparaiso over the weekend for a three-game conference series. The Raiders fell in the first contest on Saturday 4-2 but won the second game of the double-header with a convincing 11-3 victory. On Sunday, Wright State captured the series with a 3-0 victory to move to 15-28 overall and 10-6 in the Horizon League.

Floyd led the Raiders at the plate with an impressive .857 batting average throughout the series and a .875 on-base percentage. In the opening game against Valparaiso, the sophomore went 1-for-2 and a perfect 3-for-3 in the nightcap with a triple, two runs scored and two RBI. In the series finale, she went 2-for-2 with a double and added two more RBI for the weekend. Floyd posted a slugging percentage of 1.286 against Valparaiso and went 6-for-7 between the three contests.

Cleveland State went 3-1 on the road this week with a 1-0 loss to Oakland before sweeping Detroit in a three-game series. In the double-header on Saturday, the Vikings stole the first game against the Titans 5-3 before winning 9-0 in five innings in the second. On Sunday, the team posted a 7-1 win in the series finale to move to 24-15 overall and an 8-5 conference record.

Radjen went 2-0 from the mound for Cleveland State making one start and one appearance for a total of ten innings. She posted a 0.00 earned-run average while holding batters to a .114 batting-against average. The junior threw a complete game (five innings) in the second game versus Detroit and threw the final five innings in the series finale on Sunday. In her ten innings in the circle, she held batters to just four hits while striking out seven.

Cleveland travels to Akron for a mid-week double-header on Tuesday, April 29 while Wright State takes on IUPUI in a double-header in Indianapolis, Ind. on Wednesday, April 30. The two teams meet at Wright State for a three-game conference series beginning on Saturday, May 3 to close out the regular season for each team.
