Top Five Players from Friday: 2018 PGF Nationals

Sara Kinch (2020)
Athletics Mercado 16u (Minnesota)

Seeing the ball very well at the plate on Friday for Athletics Mercado was catcher Sara Kinch. Starting off the first inning of their first game on the day with a grand slam, she wasn’t stopping there. Kinch hit another home run to center at her second trip to the plate that game. Going 2-3 with a total of five RBI’s, she also walked once and stole second on a fly foul ball to give her team a Friday morning victory.

Shelby Lowe (2020)
Birmingham Thunderbolts 01 Dorsett (Auburn)

Pitching 105 across the plate, Shelby Lowe had a great game in the circle. Striking out seven and only walking two, she threw 74 strikes throughout the game. Only one run was scored on the Birmingham Thunderbolts, with some outstanding defense shutting down every opportunity. Lowe stayed active on the rubber and led her team to a win and a chance to compete in the 16U Premier Championship.

Shannyn Bustamante (2020)
Athletics Mercado 16U (Loyola Marymount)

Tossing all seven innings in a close 1-0 win to send the Athletics Mercado to the 16U Premier Championship, Shannyn Bustamante displayed a mixture of speeds to keep batters off balance. Throwing 95 pitches in the second game, she struck out two and allowed five hits, but thanks to her defense no runs were scored. Bustamante kept her composure in the circle to lead her team to a semi-final win.

Logan Hulon (2019)
Bombers 16 Gold Jones (Houston)

Starting off for the Bombers loser’s bracket game, lasting 6.1 innings out of eight, was Logan Hulon. She struck out a mind-blowing 11 batters and gave up zero earned runs in her 130 pitches. Allowing five hits and three runs, Hulon helped keep her team alive in the PGF National Tournament.

Kassidy Wilcox (2019)
Birmingham Thunderbolts 01 Dorsett (South Alabama)

Going 1-1 in the Birmingham Thunderbolts semi-final game, Kassidy Wilcox showed patience at the plate. Starting a little rally with a double, she had two RBI’s to give her team a 3-0 lead in the fourth. Also walking twice, she was smart on the bases and behind the plate as the catcher. Wilcox’s versatility and knowledge are excellent traits that should help her excel at the next level.
