High School and Club Players of the Week: Mattie Boyd and Hayden Brown
Mattie Boyd
P, 2019
Sachs High School
Committed: Oklahoma State
Starting pitcher for the Texas Glory in their Championship game, Mattie Boyd held her opponents to one run. In the circle, Boyd showed how well she could control the ball and game by placing pitches precisely where her catcher called for them. Committed to Oklahoma State, Boyd had shut down almost all opportunities for the World Fastpitch Champions. With all the components of a great pitcher, it’s apparent that Boyd has confidence in the circle, speed, smooth delivery, and movement on the ball. Finishing her high school season as her team’s MVP as well as District 10-6A MVP, Boyd came into the club season with a 1.39 ERA, and 151 strikeouts in her 70.1 innings pitched. Continuing to learn and develop, Boyd is on track to get even better throughout her club season.
Hayden Brown
C/1B/3B, 2020
Keller High School
Committed: LSU
As one of the players to watch on the Texas Glory team this year, Hayden Brown did not disappoint at the USA Elite Select World Fastpitch Championships. This LSU commit started the home run momentum that ultimately brought the Texas Glory the 18U Championship in Kansas City. As a veteran to the home run scene, Brown was recognized for her four home runs in four games at Keller High School on the Dallas Morning News and won the 2018 DFW home run derby. Brown finished her 2018 high school season hitting .508 with a .573 on-base percentage, and 31 RBI’s. She had some outstanding stats coming into the club season and continues to get better.
