Bandits Announce Signing of RT Cantillo for 2014 NPF Season

ROSEMONT, Ill. – May 13, 2014 – The Chicago Bandits have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with outfielder RT Cantillo for the 2014 season per team GM Aaron M. Moore. Cantillo, who played collegiately at Ole Miss, was the team’s 20th selection in the NPF Draft presented by BowNet.

Cantillo, 22, was recently named to the All-Southeastern Conference second team after a 2014 season in which she hit .424. This was the second time for Cantillo to be recognized by the conference as she was also named All-SEC second team in 2012 as a sophomore.

“This was a very good pick up for the Bandits,” stated Moore. “Her numbers speak for themselves and what she was able to do in arguably the toughest conference in college softball is pretty impressive.

“RT is a right-handed batter as well as an outfielder, so we’re definitely looking forward to having her in the Orange and Black!”

For her career, Cantillo left her name all over the Ole Miss record books. She leaves the school as the all-time leader in on-base percentage at .481. Her career batting average of .354 is second-best in program history. In addition to batting average and on-base percentage, Cantillo finished her career ranking in the top 10 in 14 different statistical categories, including hits, doubles, triples, home runs, RBI, runs, walks, total bases, slugging percentage, stolen bases, hit by pitch and fielding percentage.

“I’m excited and honored to be given the opportunity to play with some of the best softball players in the country,” exclaimed Cantillo. “The Bandits have been one of the most proficient teams in the league for many years and I look forward to being a part of that tradition.”

Cantillo will join the rest of her Bandits teammates in Rosemont when they officially begin practice on Monday, May 19. Cantillo is the first person from the 2014 draft class to sign with their respective NPF team.
