Bandits Top Racers 12-8

Akron, Ohio Brittany Cervantes clubbed two home runs to carry Chicago Bandits to a 12-8 win over Akron Racers at Akron, OH in eight innings.

Offense was not hard to come by on on Friday, as both teams combined for 20 runs and 30 hits, including seven extra base hits.

Chicago Bandits hit five home runs in the win. Home runs for Chicago Bandits came when Tammy Williams homered in the fourth inning, Natalie Hernandezhomered in the fourth inning, Cheyenne Coyle homered in the fifth inning, and Brittany homered in the sixth and seventh innings.

 

Kelley Montalvo racked up four RBIs on three hits for Akron Racers. She singled in the second and fourth innings and tripled in the seventh inning.

 

Sara Moulton recorded the win for Chicago Bandits. She allowed two runs over four innings. Sara struck out two, walked none and gave up eight hits.

Hannah Campbell took the loss for Akron Racers. She lasted just 3 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed five runs.

Chicago Bandits closer Kirsten Verdun put away the final nine outs to record the save.

The game’s last lead went to Chicago Bandits thanks to a second inning rally that saw four runs cross the plate on an error and two singles.

Akron Racers brought home two runs in the second inning, and matched that run total in the sixth. In the second, Akron Racers scored on a two-run single by Kelley, plating Brianna Cherry and Haley Outon.

Chicago Bandits scored two runs in the fourth inning, and then followed it up with two more in the fifth. In the fourth, Chicago Bandits scored on a solo home run by Natalie.

Chicago Bandits piled on three more runs in the top of the sixth. Brittany started the inning with a two-run home run, scoring Danielle Zymkowitz. That was followed up by Kirsten’s single, plating RT Cantillo.

Two runs in the bottom of the sixth helped Akron Racers close its deficit to 11-4. An RBI single by Nerissa Myers and an RBI single by Jill Barrett triggered Akron Racers’ comeback. Chicago Bandits stopped the rally after Kirsten got Nadia Taylor to ground out.

After pushing across four runs in the bottom of the seventh, Akron Racers faced just a 12-8 deficit. A three-run triple by Kelley and an RBI single by Nerissa fueled Akron Racers’ comeback. Kirsten ended the game by getting Jill to strike out.
