Lauren Haeger of Dallas Charge Throws No-Hitter against Chicago Bandits

Dallas Charge Softball

DALLAS(By: Jason Lowenthal) Dallas Charge pitcher Lauren Haeger showcased her best stuff in the circle, Thursday night, tossing a no-hitter against the Bandits at The Ballfields at Craig Ranch in Dallas, Texas. Haeger allowed just a single baserunner via a sixth inning error and was in control throughout as the Charge topped the Bandits 5-0 to claim the series.

The second-year pro from Florida, who was drafted 21st overall by Dallas (18-29) in the 2015 NPF Draft, received plenty of early support. Dallas tacked on a pair of runs in the first with the help of a throwing error by Danielle Zymkowitz.

Brittany Schutte belted a two-run homer to left in the second frame, extending the early advantage for the Charge to 4-0. It was the first of her career for Schutte.

After a single and walk, Bandits’ starter Lacey Waldrop (L, 5-4) was given an early hook. Waldrop surrendered all four runs (three earned) on four hits with two walks and zero strikeouts. She was replaced by rookie right-hander Shelby Turnier, who did well to escape the threat and keep the Bandits within striking distance.

Turnier allowed just one run in five innings of relief work. She scattered three hits and did not walk a batter while striking out two. However, despite stopping the early bleeding, the Bandits failed to solve Haeger (W, 9-7), who retired the first 15 batters she faced before Alaynie Page (0-for-2, ROE) reached on an error leading off the sixth to break up the perfect game bid.

The Bandits will continue their five-game road trip to close the 2016 regular season with a quick two-game series against the Scrap Yard Dawgs (28-19), whom they will also face in the opening round of the NPF Championship Series. First pitch in the series opener is scheduled for 7 p.m. on NPFTV.
