Maren’s Travel Blog Day 1: Welcome Home

There’s a greeting that welcomes you once you step off the plane at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv. They tell you, “Welcome home.”

If that is true, then this is the second time I have been home. My first trip was nine years ago when I was still in high school.  I remember the feeling I had when I landed then and it was similar to the one I had this morning.

My flight left John F. Kennedy Airport at noon on Tuesday and gate-to-gate took about 10 hours.  I stepped off the plane at 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, Israeli time.  The flight itself was easy except for some turbulence over Italy.  I watched a couple movies, a couple episodes of Friends and had some unique conversations with a few of the 135 United States delegates on the plane.  I also had two meals and considering the fact it was plane food, it wasn’t too bad.

Since we technically flew all night, there are no plans until an orientation with all 1,000 and some odd folks from around the United States later tonight. I will spend the rest of my day relaxing and by the time anyone reads this back in the States, I hope to be fast asleep.
