Conroe, Texas – August 4th, 2016 – The Dawgs are back for good at the Scrap Yard for the remainder of the 2016 season. The first of three separate series at home began tonight against the Akron Racers.

Both teams were held to one hit a piece in the first two innings of play, the Racers earned theirs off the bat of Taylor Schlopy in her first at bat up the middle for their lone hit. The Dawgs came from a single in the 5-6 hole from Amanda Fama.

The third hit of the game in the top of the third from A.J. Andrews was short lived on the base path when she attempted to steal second but was thrown out by catcher, Taylore Fuller from her knees. That marked the first time Andrews was caught stealing this season as she is leading the league in stolen bases, her current stolen base record is now 15 for 16.

The Racers had runners in scoring position first when Ashley Thomas reached safely on a bunt and was moved over to second on another bunt from Alex Hugo who was thrown out. A single to centerfield from former Wildcat, Griffin Joiner put Thomas on third. Thomas was caught in a run down at home resulting in out number two. A strikeout ended the side from Abbott to Andrews left the game scoreless going into the bottom of the fifth.

The Dawgs finally broke through in the bottom of the sixth inning with an RBI single over the head of Racers second baseman from Fama, her second hit of the night, to score Nerissa Myers at second base who reached earlier by taking one to the knee and was moved over on a sacrifice bunt from Madison Shipman (1-0).

With two lefties in the circle for both teams it was a back and fourth battle each inning but the Dawgs come away with game one at the start this series against the Racers. Abbott ended the game with seven (7) strikeouts, along with four 1-2-3 innings. James Madison Alum, Jailyn Ford had herself a game as well, with five (5) strikeouts.
