The Woodlands, TX (June 19, 2016) – The Dawgs faced the Dallas Charge for a double header on Sunday.
The Dawgs were first to score against the Charge. A walk to Britt Vonk and a steal allowed the Dawgs to be in scoring position. Nerissa Myers came in clutch with an RBI single to center field to score Vonk from second and put the Dawgs on the board (0-1).
In the bottom of the fifth inning, Kiki Stokes led off with a walk, followed by Emily Crane’s bunt single to first base to put two Dawgs on base. Vonk laid down a bunt to make that back-to-back bunt singles for the Dawgs. With the bases loaded, Emilee Koerner hit an RBI single to center to bring in two runners and Myers hit another RBI single to score Vonk to add another run for the Dawgs (0-4).
Starting pitcher Rachel Fox had an outstanding five innings, with only one walk and a solid defense behind her. Amanda Fama and Christian Stokes were a brick wall and did not allow a ball to go through the left side.
With the Dawgs in the lead, Kiki Stokes hit a solo bomb off of Charge pitcher Jill Compton, who entered the circle for Lauren Haeger, to add one more run (0-5).
Ellen Renfroe Reed finished in the circle and the Dawgs took the win over the Charge (0-5).
In the second game against the Charge, the Dawgs started pitcher Sara Driesenga. The Charge were the first to jump on the board, with a walk to Taylor Gadbois, and a triple from Renada Davis to score Gadbois from first. Lauren Haeger also batted in a run to make it 2-0. The Charge continued in the second inning, with a line drive hit to Fama that tipped her glove and scored another run (3-0). With bases loaded, Haeger hit a single to right to score two more runs for the Charge (5-0).
In the fourth inning, Christian Stokes led off with a walk and Taylore Fuller singled to left to get the Dawgs on base. Amanda Fama hit a ground ball to the Charge pitcher Morgan Melloh, who threw the ball near the base path, and Fama and Attfield collided at first, which resulted in a run for the Dawgs (5-1). Fuller followed by scoring on a passed ball from the catcher and Kiki Stokes hit a sac fly to center to score another run (5-3).
Ellen Renfroe Reed finished in the circle for the Dawgs and had three strikeouts and just one walk. The Dawgs made the comeback and Taylore Fuller hit a walk-off homerun to take the series and win the last game against the Charge (5-6).
The Dawgs will face the Chicago Bandits on Tuesday night at the Scrap Yard Sports Complex.
