Scrap Yard Dogs Top Dallas Charge in OKC

Oklahoma City, OK – June 17, 2016 –  Coming from their first win at home, the Dawgs hit the road to Oklahoma City in hopes of taking game one against the Dallas Charge at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.

The Dawgs took an early lead in the second inning with a leadoff walk to Amanda Fama, followed by a hit by pitch to Christian Stokes to put runners on base. First basemen Britt Vonk had a quality at bat with a sac bunt to third base to move runners to third and second. Kiki Stokes was the first to bring in a run for the Dawgs with a sac fly to right field to score Fama from third (1-0).  The hitting rally continued in the third inning, with a leadoff walk to Nerissa Myers and a single to center from Meagan May Whitley. Fama followed with a sac bunt to move Myers and pinch runner Breja’e Washington. Christian Stokes had another hit by pitch to load the bases. A passed ball from the Dallas Charge catcher Vicky Galasso allowed Myers to score from third (2-0). Vonk hit a sac fly to left to bring in Washington and with her first home run of the season, Kiki Stokes hit a two run bomb over the right/center field fence to lift the Dawgs up (5-0).

The Charge struggled with Monica Abbott’s pitching, until Kylee Lahners hit a solo home run to put the Charge on the board (5-1).

In the top of the sixth inning, the Dawgs put two more runs on the board with a two run bomb by pinch hitter Christi Orgeron (7-1). The Charge entered Jill Compton in relief for Morgan Melloh to retire three Dawgs in a row.

The Dawgs defense and Abbott’s pitching were solid through the sixth inning with eleven strike outs and only one run. Stand out at the University of Tennessee, Ivy Renfroe entered the game for Abbott in the seventh inning to finish the game.
