Teams arrive in Irvine, Calif. for the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX

Irvine, Calif. – Seven international softball teams have arrived in Irvine, Calif. for the General Tire World Cup of Softball IX the Amateur Softball Association (ASA)/USA Softball announced today.  The General Tire World Cup of Softball IX kicks off on July 7 at 11 a.m. (PDT) as Venezuela takes on the Philippines and continues through Sunday, July 13.  Participating countries are Canada, Chinese Taipei, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, USA, and Venezuela.

The United States will take on Mexico in an exhibition matchup at 7 p.m. (PDT) on July 7 before kicking off tournament play on July 8 at 7 p.m. (PDT) against Venezuela.  Following their opening game of the tournament, the USA is scheduled to play five other pool-play games: Philippines on July 9 at 7 p.m. (PDT), Canada on July 10 at 6 p.m. (PDT), Japan on July 11 at 6 p.m. (PDT), Mexico on July 12 at 10 a.m. (PDT) and Chinese Taipei on July 12 at 5 p.m. (PDT). The General Tire World Cup of Softball finals will be played on Sunday, July 13 at 10 a.m. (PDT).

The ESPN networks are the exclusive domestic home of the General Tire World Cup of Softball and feature over 10 hours of live coverage including the Championship Game on Sunday, July 13 at 10 a.m. (PDT).  All telecasts will be aired in HD and also available for live streaming via WatchESPN.  The games will also be available on the ESPN Pacific Rim International network.   Click here to see the full ESPN broadcast schedule for the General Tire World Cup of Softball.  Games not televised by ESPN will be available for viewing via a live stream on USASoftball.com.

The General Tire World Cup of Softball kicks off a full summer schedule for the USA Softball Women’s National Team as they prepare for the International Softball Federation (ISF) Women’s World Championship in Haarlem, Netherlands August 15-24, 2014.  The Women’s National Team will also participate in the Canadian Open Fast Pitch International in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada July 15-21 and Italian Softball Week in Azzano, Italy August 6-10.
