USSSA Pride Earn 6-3 Win Over PA Rebellion

USSSA Pride

Allentown, PA (June 23, 2016) – After three games in Washington, PA, the Pennsylvania Rebellion and the USSSA Pride headed east for a two game series in Allentown, PA at Coca-Cola Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies AAA affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. The Pride rallied late to surpass the Rebellion and take the victory tonight, 6-3.

The Rebellion were the first team to hit the scoresheet. After three scoreless innings, Center Fielder Lindsey Stephens got things started with her RBI single that scored Catcher Kristyn Sandberg. A few batters later, Mandy Ogle came to the plate as a pinch hitter and promptly rocketed a two-run single to left and the Rebellion were out to a 3-0 lead.

The Pride started on the comeback trail in the 5th with a single run coming across to score on a double off the bat of Shortstop Shelby Pendley, and it was 3-1 PA.

The Pride rally would come to full fruition in the top of the 6th. A pair of runs scored on a single from Third Baseman Missy Taukeiaho to tie the game at 3-3. That was followed by the go-ahead base knock by the veteran Right Fielder Kelly Kretschman to make it 4-3. When Kretschman stole second, that allowed Center Fielder Megan Wiggins to sneak home from third and push another run across. A fifth run in the inning scored when Shelby Pendley hit her second RBI single of the game and made it 6-3 Pride.

Kelly Kretschman finished 2-for-3 with two singles, the game-winning RBI, and a stolen base. For that performance, Kretschman was awarded the honor of Powerhandz Player of the Game.

A bright spot for the Rebellion came with the strong effort from starting pitcher Miranda Kramer. Kramer tossed four scoreless frames and allowed just 3 hits.

Haylie Wagner came in the game in relief of Kramer and picked up the loss pitching 1.2 innings and giving up the lead in the 6th. Dallas Escobedo entered in the 6th and recorded the final four outs for the Rebellion.

The PA Rebellion (7-12) and the USSSA Pride (9-3) will conclude the series from the Lehigh Valley tomorrow evening. Game 2 from Coca-Cola Park starts at 7:05pm. You can catch all the action on NPFTV at profastpitch.com.
