Crystl Bustos named head coach NPF Texas Charge

Three-time Olympian Crystl Bustos was named the head coach of the Texas Charge on Thursday, the team announced on Twitter.

Bustos, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and owner of a bronze medal from the 2008 Games, is the latest addition to the Charge organization, which changed its name this offseason from the ‘Dallas Charge’ to the ‘Texas Charge.’

The former designated hitter and third baseman, 39, owns the record for home runs hit during an Olympic Games with six. Bustos, who is largely regarded as the best power hitter in the history of softball, is also a winner of two World Cup titles, three Pan American Championships and a gold medal from the 2006 ISF World Championships. She is a former member of the NPF’s Akron Racers.

Bustos, also known as “The Big Bruiser,” retired from international softball following the 2008 Olympics.
