Dallas Charge Top Scrap Yard Dogs 3-1 Behind Solid Pitching

The Woodlands, TX – (July 23, 2016) – Lauren Haeger fired a two-hitter Saturday night in the Woodlands to lead the Charge over the Scrap Yard Dawgs, 3-1, in game two of their three game set. Additionally, she drove in two of the Charge three runs with a fifth inning single.

Ellen Renfroe Reed got the start for the Dawgs and took the loss, going five innings, allowing three runs, walking three while striking out five.  All of the Charge runs were unearned.  Three Dawgs errors were responsible for all of Dallas’ scoring.

The Charge collected seven hits in total from six different hitters during the contest.  Catcher Vicky Galasso was the lone Dallas player to get multiple hits.  She had two, scoring once.

The Charge got on top early scoring a single run in the top of the second.  A Kaylan Castillo walk was followed by a Kaitlyn Richardson double and a Dawg miscue in center.  Castillo scored giving the Charge a 1-0.

In the fifth the Charge got two walks and an error to load the bases.  Haeger delivered a two-out single to left plating Galasso and Danielle Henderson.

The Dawgs’ Madison Shipman mashed a solo homer in the bottom of the seventh to narrow the score to 3-1, but Haeger closed out the game with no more drama to seal the win.

The Charge improved to 12-21 overall.  The second place Dawgs dropped to 21-14.  The Charge will take on the Dawgs in the series rubber match Sunday afternoon.
