Texas Charge Trade No. 2 Pick to USSSA Pride for McCleney and Thomas

New Braunfels, TX – January 12, 2017 – Texas Charge General Manager Scott Smith adds current USA National Team member Haylie McCleney and USSSA Pride standout Chelsea Thomas to the Texas Charge for the 2017 season.
McCleney, an Alabama native, comes to Charge being a very known name in the softball world. While her time in college at The University of Alabama she had, many accolades including being named a four-time All-American from 2013-2016. While her time at Bama she also was a 3 time Top 10 Finalist for USA Softball collegiate player of the year, 3-time All-SEC Defensive team, 1st team All-SEC (2014 – 2016), and apart of the 2013 SEC All-Freshman team. While on the USA Women’s National team the past 3 years (2014-2016) she has won 2 gold medals and 1 silver at the World Cup. She averages a .397 batting average with 18 RBI’s and 421 runs scored. With her time on the USSSA Pride last year, she had a .300 batting average and 1.000 fielding percentage in the outfield.
Chelsea Thomas, an Iowa native and former Missouri standout comes to the Charge with a career 18 wins and 9 loses. With her time on the Pride, she has accounted for 156 career strikeouts in 206.2 innings pitched, with a 2.73 ERA. Last season in 2016, Thomas had a record of 7 wins and 2 loses with an ERA of 2.98. Thomas had a total of 12 starts, pitched 65.2 innings, and the opponents’ batting average against her was 255. While her time at Missouri, Thomas was named as a 3 time 1st team All-American (2011-2013), and the 2013 SEC Pitcher of the Year. In 2011 and 2012 Thomas was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Year and on the Top 25 finalist for the USA Softball player of the year. In 2013 while in the SEC she was named to the All-SEC Defensive team.
