Florida tabbed to win 2015 SEC softball title
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Florida, the defending National Champion, has been selected to win the 2015 Southeastern Conference softball title after a vote of the 13 SEC head coaches in the annual preseason poll.
The Gators, who received 11 first-place votes, won their first national championship last season and finished with an overall record of 55-12.
Alabama, the runner-up of the 2014 Women’s College World Series who posted an overall mark of 53-13, was predicted to finish second in the SEC. Kentucky, which made its first appeairance in the WCWS and finished the 2014 campaign with an overall record of 50-19, earned one first-place vote and is predicted to finish third in the SEC.
Nine of the 13 SEC softball teams appear among the nation’s top-25 in the USA Today/NFCA Preseason Poll. Points for the poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12 basis. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own team.
SEC teams begin action on Thursday, Feb. 5. The 2015 SEC Softball Tournament will take place May 6-9 at LSU’s Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La.
