Andrea Browning Named Tennessee State Head Coach
Tennessee State announced late last week that Assistant Coach Andrea Browning would get promoted to Head Coach after serving the 2017 season as the Tigers Assistant Coach.Browning worked closely with the Tigers pitchers and is a native of nearby Franklin, Tennessee.
Browning replaces Tom Opdenbrouw who was not retained on May 19th. Under Opdenbrouw The Tigers struggled to compile a 33-119 overall record (.217) in three seasons at the helm and a 9-64 mark (.123) in Ohio Valley Conference play. TSU posted a 12-37 record in 2017 and finished 2-19 in the OVC. The two conference wins the lowest amount for a Tiger team since 2005.
Browning will have the challenge of building the Tigers into a contender in the Ohio Valley Conference which has been dominated in recent seasons by Jacksonville State who went 15-1 in conference in 2017 winning the regular season, and conference tournament championship.
Before her arrival in Nashville, Browning served as a volunteer assistant at the University of North Florida during the 2016 season. Browning aided the Ospreys’ pitching staff, as well as coordinating community service projects and assisted with the organization and implementation of camps.
Browning has a lot of history in the OVC as she began her coaching career at Ohio Valley Conference school Austin Peay, where she spent three seasons. Browning continued her coaching career as an assistant at Belmont University in 2007. Belmont is now a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.
Browning then moved to Florida where she continued to gain coaching experience at Fort Walton Beach High School, spending four seasons from 2007-11.
