Oregon’s Powerhouse Offense

The Ducks finished undefeated on the weekend at the Kajikawa Classic. Oregon (6-0) put up incredible offensive numbers over six games to open the 2018 season, scoring 73 total runs and 57 over the last four games. The Ducks outscored their opponents by an astounding 73-12 margin over the weekend, while racking up 76 hits with 27 walks and just nine strikeouts. As a team, they hit a whopping .472 and blasted 17 home runs. Oregon’s 17 home runs in the first weekend are already more than a third of the way to last season’s total (46), and the Ducks finished with 29 total extra-base hits. The Ducks head to Mexico next weekend for four games in the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge, beginning Thursday against Houston at 12 p.m. PT.

Oklahoma Perfect 5-0

The defending National Champions secured a perfect record at the GCU Kickoff Tournament with a 7-0 win over Pacific on Sunday. OU’s 5-0 start to the season marks the first time the Sooners have won their first five games since 2015. Sunday’s win also marked OU’s third consecutive shutout. Senior pitcher Paige Parker moved to 2-0 on the season after tossing five scoreless innings with six strikeouts and allowing just one hit on Sunday. The Sooners are back in action on February 16-17th as they travel to Las Cruces, New Mexico, for the Troy Cox Classic.

ULL’s Undefeated Weekend

The Ragin’ Cajuns Softball team picked up a pair of wins on Sunday at the Broussard Sports Complex to close out the Mardi Gras Classic and wrap up an undefeated season-opening weekend. The Cajuns who are now led by head coach Gerry Glasco picked up wins against Samford, Eastern Illinois, Evansville, and Iowa in the Classic. The Cajuns continued their well-known gritty offensive reputation and outscored their opponents 39-13 over the five games played on the weekend. Louisiana returns to Lamson Park on Thursday, February 15th for a 6 p.m. single game with Oregon State. This upcoming weekend, the Ragin’ Cajuns battle Florida in a three-game weekend series that begins with a 3 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

UCLA Cruises Through Opening Weekend

The Bruins completed a 5-0 weekend sweep at the Stacy Winsberg Memorial Tournament. The Bruins defeated Maryland, Middle Tennessee, Cal Poly twice, and UC Riverside on opening weekend. Dominant pitching and offense helped lead UCLA to five strong team wins, three of which were five-innings due to the run-rule. The Bruin offense pushed across 49 runs on the weekend and the pitching staff held opponents to only five runs scored. UCLA will host Fordham at home on Thursday, February 15th before hitting the road for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic and will take the field Saturday, February 17th through Monday the 19th.

Tennessee Take Down

The Lady Vols won all six games played at the Kajikawa Classic in Tempe, Arizona over the weekend. Tennessee defeated Boise State, host Arizona State, Western Michigan, San Jose State, UC Davis, and Utah to cap off the opening weekend sweep. The final game against Utah was a fight to the finish for both teams, before Tennessee; who was down 5-0 after four innings, staged a wild comeback victory. Tennessee will be in Clearwater, Florida this coming Friday through Sunday for the Michele Smith Tournament. The Lady Vols are scheduled to face off against Oklahoma State, UMass, Florida Atlantic, USF, and Marshall.
