5 Things you may have missed in College Softball 2-18-17

Junior outfielder Kelsey McFarland (Iowa State) went on a nine at bat hit streak. Over three games she went 9-9 with one home run, a double and five RBI. The Cyclones are now 4-3 on the season under the guidance of first-year coach Jamie Trachsel.

Sophomore pitcher Kamalani Dung (4-1) of Fresno State threw a no-hitter Friday against Florida Gulf Coast. Dung walked three and struck out six. On the season she carries a 1.25 ERA and has 23 strikeouts in 28.0 innings pitched. Dung has also held opponents to a .165 batting average.

The Arizona State Sun Devils are off to a fast 9-0 start under new coach Trisha Ford. In those nine games, they have outscored the opposition 50-12 with a team batting average of .372 with eight home runs. They have also been sharp in the circle with a team ERA of 1.17. They will get their first big test today when they face No. 18 Missouri at the Littlewood Classic.

UCLA (7-1) topped Cal Poly (4-3) in the FPN game of the week. The potent UCLA offense got the best of Cal Poly and week one FPN pitcher of the week. Sierra Hyland. The Bruins used five hits from five different players to come out on top in this one. Hyland went the distant giving up three runs on five hits while striking out seven.

Senior Minnesota pitcher Sara Groenewegen (3-0) was on her game as she recorded a win against No. 24 Notre Dame Friday. Not only did she shine for the No. 13 Gophers, she recorded 15 strikeouts while allowing just three hit and walking none. That was just her second start of the season.
