19 and Counting

Tennessee got the best of LSU with a 6-3 victory to extend its nation-leading win streak to 19 straight games. The Tennessee win streak is at 19 games, which is tied for the fourth-longest in program history. The Vols also won 19 straight in the 2011 and 2013 seasons. Meghan Gregg went 3-for-3 with a walk and a RBI while Scarlet McSwain scored a pair of runs and chipped in two hits, including a solo home run in the second inning to spark the Volunteers’ offense. Gregg’s three-hit performance was her fifth of the season.

Badgers Walk-off

Wisconsin’s Stephanie Lombardo hit a walk-off solo home run in the 11th inning to upset Michigan in Madison, WI last night. The win is the first time in program history that the Badgers have defeated the Wolverines in Madison. This was the fifth time this season that Michigan has been shut out, but just the first time by an unranked opponent. Lombardo on the game “What an exciting night. We’ve been grinding all year, we’ve been really knocking on the door against some great teams and to see the team come through and push the win across in front of our home crowd was exciting.”

Sun Devils Strike

Arizona State also won in grand-slam walk-off fashion against Utah, one of the hottest teams in college softball right now. Emma Ramelot came to the plate with two away and the bases loaded. The Riverside, Calif., native wasted no time, taking the first pitch she saw over the fence giving the Sun Devils the 9-8 win. ASU is currently 18-2 at home. “We have been talking about this being our process,” head coach Trisha Ford said. “This team can do whatever they put their minds to and we really got in the box and battled every pitch. We just never said die. As cliché as that sounds, we just saw tonight what that looks like.”

Mauga Ties Arizona Record

Mauga’s fifth-inning home run was her Pac-12-leading 20th of 2017, making her the first player in NCAA history with 20-or-more home runs in all four of her seasons. That helped lead the Wildcats to a 2-0 win over Oregon. Mauga is now tied for third in NCAA history with Stacie Chambers at 87 homer runs and just eight behind Oklahoma’s Lauren Chamberlain for the record. The victory was Arizona’s 24th straight win at Hillenbrand Stadium, the sixth longest streak in the stadium’s history.

Minnesota’s Freshman Phenom

Kendyl Lindaman tied Jordanne Nygren’s single-season home run record with her 15th this year as the Minnesota Gophers topped the Iowa Hawkeyes 5-0 Friday night. In the bottom of the sixth Lindaman led off with her bomb to left. She now has 53 RBIs and a slugging percentage of .873. The Gophers take on Iowa again tomorrow afternoon in front of the home crowd with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
