5 Things You May Have Missed in College Softball Saturday

Sun Devils get the Upset

Arizona State used strong pitching and timely hitting to knock off No. 2 Arizona 5-2 Saturday. That was second win in as many weeks for the Sun Devils over a top 10 team. Last week the won the series opener over Utah. First pitch for Sunday’s third game is scheduled for 5 p.m. and will be televised on the Pac-12 Network with Kate Scott and Teri Goldberg on the call.

LSU Wins Series

Constance Quinn hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 1-1 tie and to a 3-1 win over the Missouri Tigers and claim the series Saturday afternoon. Quinn on how the Tigers need to play moving forward “From here on out we need to play LSU softball. That is something Coach talked to us about in the circle. It is how we came out in the seventh inning. We got the crowd up. We were playing hard. We were playing like LSU. If we carry that on from the first inning through the last, we will win the ball game.”

Sooners Building Steam

Oklahoma got its 15th shutout and 14th run-rule win of the season with a 12-0, five-inning victory over Texas Tech Saturday at Rocky Johnson Field. The damage was done Saturday by the top of Oklahoma’s lineup. The team’s 1-5 hitters combined for 10 of the team’s 14 hits, going 10-17 (.588) with 10 runs scored and eight runs batted in. Oklahoma goes for the series sweep Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.

Kentucky ties series with Texas A&M

Kentucky softball team celebrated its annual Senior Day with a bang on Saturday afternoon, knocking off Texas A&M Aggies 7-2 to even the series at a game each. All three seniors had major contributions to the game with pitcher Shannon Smith getting the start in the circle, Meagan Prince coming on in relief to get the win and Breanne Ray going 1-for-2 with three RBI and a walk. Game three of the series will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. ET from John Cropp Stadium. The game will be shown live on the SEC Network+, ESPN3 and the WatchESPN app with Dave Baker (pxp) and Dorian Craft (color) on the call from Lexington.

Ladines Throws Perfect Game for Kent State

Senior Ronnie Ladines threw the third perfect game in Kent State history and blasted a pair of homers in a doubleheader sweep of Buffalo on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Flashes won the first game, 11-1, and then completed the series sweep with a 10-0 win in five innings. “It is often said that softball is a game of failure, so to achieve a moment of perfection is extraordinary,” said head coach Eric Oakley.
