5 things you may have missed in College Softball Saturday

Maryland Softball

Maryland (1-8) downed No. 1-ranked Florida (8-1) Saturday 4-2 at the Aquafina Invitational.  The Terps had the lead in the sixth inning when the Gators loaded the bases.  The skies opened up and the game went into an hour and a half rain delay. Maryland escaped the jam unscathed. The win was the first against a ranked opponent for Maryland since 2012. The four runs were the most allowed by the Gators this season.  They were also the first runs scored on Delaney Gourley this season.  Prior to Saturday, she was 4-0 with a 0.00 ERA.

Alabama and Louisiana Lafayette split a doubleheader Saturday.  The Tide won the first game 3-0.  Alexis Osorio got the win.  In game two, the Ragin’ Cajuns run-ruled the Tide 11-2 in six innings. Beth Ashley hit a walk-off 3-run homer in the sixth for the walk-off run rule. Alex Stewart earned the win from the circle.

Michigan lost to Notre Dame 6-4 in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.  The Wolverines stranded 15 runners on base including a runner on third in six of the seven innings. Senior Megan Betsa gave up five earned runs in the loss.

Bradley defeated Oregon State 18-8 in the Troy Cox Classic in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The Braves scored nine runs in the first inning.  The 18 runs marked the highest-scoring game for Bradley since 2004. Sophomore Stephanie Campos was 2-3, driving in six runs.

If you are looking for results from the West Coast, don’t worry. The Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif., the Littlewood Classic in Tempe, Ariz., and the DeMarini Desert Classic were rained out Saturday.
