5 Things you missed in College Softball Friday
Jordan Seneca
Saint Francis junior Jordan Seneca became the 11th player in NCAA history to hit two grand slams in the same game. Those two homers were numbers 13 and 14 on the year, giving her sole possession of the first in the NCAA home run race. She also entered the weekend ranked fourth nationally in RBI but the eight in one game pushed her to the top.
Cal Poly
Cal Poly senior Sierra Hyland tossed a complete-game, one-hitter against No. 8 Oklahoma to lead the Mustangs to a 3-1 victory. Hyland gave up a two-out solo home run to Sydney Romero in the first inning and retired the next 18 consecutive batters. She struck out nine in the contest, improving her career total to 829. She needs 16 more to break the all-time Big West Conference record. Cal Poly plays Oklahoma again Saturday morning.
Pig Sooie
Arkansas junior A.J. Belans belted a grand slam in the bottom of the third to lift the No. 24 Razorbacks over the No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers, 4-3, Friday. The win was the first against a ranked program since 2014. Grace Moll got the win from the circle and Autumn Storms earned the save. The Razorbacks improved to 20-5 on the year and 1-3 in SEC play.
Utah
The No. 20 Utah Utes defeated the No. 11 UCLA Bruins 2-1 Friday in Westwood. Miranda Viramontes limited the Bruins offense to seven hits and lead the Utes to their first victory at UCLA. The junior improved to 6-0 in her second complete game of the year. She struck out three and did not give up a walk.
Florida State
The No. 4 Seminoles shutout Notre Dame 6-0 Friday in the first game of their weekend series. Meghan King improved to 12-0 on the year, only allowing three hits in seven innings. Jessica Warren collected three RBI at the plate including her seventh homer of the season.
