Inside the Numbers of College Softball

This week in inside the numbers we want to look at records and see if any are in Jeopardy.

Hits

The season record was set back in 1997 by Alison McCutcheon (Arizona) with 132 in a single season. Currently, there is nobody on pace to threaten that record. Baily Landry (LSU) currently has 62 on the season with about 60% of her scheduled games behind her. The career mark of 405 is also held by McCutcheon. That record will also be safe this year. Senior Karley Wester (Notre Dame) sits at 293 with a little less than half a season remaining.

Triples

The season record has an outside shot of being challenged. The record stands at 17 by Dianna Korcak (Jacksonville). This season two players it at eight, but would need to pick up the pace some if they are to catch Korcak. Those two are Lindsay Crowdus (Memphis) and Ebonee Echols (Michigan State). There is a small chance that one of these two could come close.

Home Runs

This is an interesting one. The season record is 37 set by Laura Espinoza (Arizona) in 1995. That record should be ok, but it is not out of the realm of possibility that it could be threatened this season. DJ Sanders (LLU) sits with 17 thru 31 games. If she plays as many games as Espinoza did (72) there is a chance Sanders could come close. The career record was just set in 2015 by Lauren Chamberlain (Oklahoma) with 95. There is a very good chance that one may be in trouble. Katiyana Mauga (Arizona) is currently just 16 shy of the record sitting at 79. So far this season she has 12. She will need to step thing up to break the record and she is very capable of it.

Bonus Recognition

Marshall Pitcher Jordan Dixon has been a workhorse over the years. She is number one in five active career leader categories. She holds the top spot in games started (144), appearances (182), innings pitched (944.3), complete games (91) and victories (95).
