Kotter Earns Second Big East Softball Player of the Week Honor

BIG EAST Player of the Week
Alex Kotter, Butler, Jr., INF
Kotter’s offensive tear to open 2015 continued at South Alabama’s Mardi Gras Invitational last weekend, leading the Bulldogs with a .471 batting average with six runs batted in, three stolen bases and two home runs. Kotter was named to the All-Tournament Team as Butler earned a pair of wins, including an 11-6 victory over 2014 NCAA Tournament qualifier Lipscomb in the weekend finale. On the season, the junior leads the BIG EAST in batting with a .630 clip, 12 runs scored and six walks.

BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week
Megan Hyson, Georgetown, Sr., P
Hyson was credited with all three of Georgetown’s wins at the Landfall Park Hampton Inn and Suites Invitational in Wilmington, N.C. last weekend. The senior went 3-0 in the circle, boasting a 0.41 earned run average over 17 innings of work while striking out 18. The Hoyas went 3-1, bouncing back from a one-run loss to UNC-Wilmington on Friday by thumping them 11-3 on Saturday. Hyson also knocked in a pair of runs and scored three times herself over the weekend.

Weekly Honor Roll
Mary Connolly, DePaul, Sr., P/1B
At the Houston Hilton Plaza Invitational, Connolly batted .333 with a pair of home runs and six RBI to lead the Blue Demons who went 2-3.
Sophia Gargicevich-Almedia, Georgetown, Sr., OF/1B
Gargicevich-Almedia led the offensive effort in Wilmington by batting .250 with four RBI, two runs scored, a triple and a homer, while also stealing a base.
Shanelle, Harrell, Providence, Sr., INF/P
Harrell led the Friars in their opening weekend at the FAU Strike-Out Cancer Tournament with a .333 batting averaging and a pair of triples.
Yasmin Harrell, Seton Hall, Jr., U
Harrell batted .375 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in San Diego at the Campbell/Cartier Classic.
Savannah Warren, St. John’s, Fr., C
Warren batted .250, including her first collegiate home run which tied the game up with Detroit in the second inning in a contest which St. John’s went on to win 3-2.
