Seton Hall Softball adds Jennifer Abrams to Coaching Staff

Vincent Novicki – Associate Director of Athletics Communications, Seton Hall University

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall University head softball coach Paige Smith on Wednesday announced the addition of Jennifer Abrams to the Pirates’ coaching staff for the 2014 season.

Abrams is no stranger to the BIG EAST Conference as she joins the Seton Hall coaching staff after spending four years competing for the Providence College softball team where she started more than 150 games and saw action in nearly 200 contests over her four-year career.

“Jen will be a great addition to the staff, she is a great motivator and I believe the team will really take to her style of instruction,” Smith said. “Jen will be working primarily with the outfield, but with her experience playing multiple positions she will be an asset in all areas of the game. We are lucky that Jen has chosen to begin what I am sure will be a great career here at Seton Hall.”

Abrams graduated Cum Laude from Providence in 2012 with a degree in business administration. Last year she served as a graduate assistant in the athletics compliance office at her alma mater and was also a management intern for the softball team, working closely with the coaching staff to devise practice plans and drills and contribute to the day-to-day operations of the team.

This past summer Abrams was a camp counselor at the Villanova University Softball Camp and Fairfield University Softball Camp, and she served as a camp director at the Providence College Softball Camp from 2009-12. Abrams was also coach for the Polar Crush Elite Softball Program in Boston, Mass., for two seasons from 2011-12 where she prepared training schedules, managed team trips and developed workout plans.

During her playing career at Providence Abrams started in 188 games and made 191 total appearances, graduating with a .293 career batting average and .402 slugging percentage. Her 2011 season was one of the top single-season offensive years in program history as she started in all 53 games for the Friars, ranking second the team with a .347 average while her 35 runs scored and 61 base hits both rank third all-time at Providence.

Abrams was named a CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-District selection following the 2011 season and was a four-time BIG EAST Academic All-Star. Additionally she was Providence’s BIG EAST Female Student-Athlete of the Year award winner in 2012.

As a graduate student in 2012 Abrams continued her stellar collegiate athletic career, suiting up for the Providence College field hockey team where she started 16 of her 17 games played and finished the season with one goal and a pair of assists. She went on to earn BIG EAST Academic All-Star accolades for a fifth time and was also tabbed as a NFHCA Division I Academic Squad selection.
