LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Seven current and former Lady Mocs softball student-athletes were named 2012-13 All-American Scholar Athletes last week by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.

Seniors Stephanie Rieck (Chandler, Ariz.) and Tyler Templet (Woodstock, Ga.) are joined by sophomres Anyssa Robles (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Sam Taylor (Chickamauga, Ga.) on the active roster while graduates

Sara Poteat (Thomaston, Ga.) and Ninjja Suetsugu (Sao Paulo, Brazil) were also honored. Former walk-on Carmen Wooden (South Pittsburg, Tenn.) received All-American Scholar Athlete status as well.

“It is always great to win games on the field, but it is even better to see our student-athletes excel in the classroom,” Head Coach Frank Reed said. “Their experience in the classroom is very valuable and it is something they will have for the rest of their life.”

Over 4,000 softball student-athletes from across seven different divisions were tabbed as 2012-13 NFCA All-America Scholar Athletes, the Association announced on Monday. The award is bestowed upon any player submitted by a member coach who achieved a 3.50 grade point average or higher during the 2012-13 academic year.

The honor marks the second component of the Association’s academic award program. Back in late September the squads with the highest GPAs in each membership category were recognized as 2013 NFCA Top Ten All-Academic Teams.

The membership category with the most participating institutions this year proved to be Division I with 160. Division III was second by boasting 158 teams and Division II ranked third with 102.
