SKYHAWK SOFTBALL WRAPS UP FALL SLATE WITH 4-0 WIN AT UNION

By: Alex Boggis, UT Martin Sports Information Assistant

JACKSON, Tenn. – The University of Tennessee at Martin softball team used dominating pitching to close out its fall schedule with a 4-0 win at Union University on Thursday, Oct. 3.

After dodging rain for most of the fall schedule, the Skyhawks made the short trip to Jackson to round out the eight game schedule.

Offensively the Skyhawks were led by freshman Brooke Kennedy who went 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Taylor Manning picked up the final RBI of the contest. Deven Wilson, Stephanie Nidiffer and Sam McClure each tallied one hit on the afternoon.

Kenzi Tate got the start in the circle, striking out four in three innings of work. Casey Vincent appeared in relief, allowing one hit while striking out three in three innings of work. Elizabeth Wiegand struck out two in two innings of work. Tayler Jerrick appeared in one inning, tallying one strikeout. The foursome combined to allow three hits in the nine-inning shutout.

“I thought that we competed very well all fall,” said UT Martin head softball coach Donley Canary. “Our pitching has been solid and our hitters have been able to hit behind batters and produce good at-bats. We’re looking forward to continue getting better over the next couple of weeks as we close in on our spring schedule.”

The Skyhawks will turn their focus to conditioning and weights to close out the fall semester before opening official practice on January 9.
