Western Michigan Softball Walks Off With A Doubleheader Sweep

By: Mat Kanan, Western Michigan University – Director of Athletic Media Relations

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Megan Stamm came through with not one but two walk-off home runs in Sunday’s lone home doubleheader of the fall ball season over Aquinas.

The opener of today’s twin bill was the definition of a pitchers duel as it was the battle of the Becca’s, WMU’s Shemberger and Aquinas’ Shineldecker. Both pitchers allowed just four hits throughout with Shemberger fanning 12 batters en route to the complete game shutout victory.

Shineldecker’s lone mistake came in the bottom of the seventh. Stamm led off the frame and, facing a 2-2 count, smacked a home run over the left field wall for a 1-0 Bronco win. Stamm stepped to the plate in the exact same situation in the top of the eighth during game two, leading off the inning. This time she didn’t need to see a second pitch as she sent the first offering back over the left field wall to give WMU a 3-2 victory.

Allyson Kus picked the win in game two, striking out seven batters, while allowing a pair of earned runs on seven hits.

Jenny Rohn had the Broncos’ only other extra base hit on Sunday, hitting a triple down the right field line to lead off the bottom of the first in game one.

Also collecting hits in the opener were Christina Pigozzi, and Marleen Rodriguez. Rohn added two more hits in the second game, finishing 3-for-7 on the day. Erin Binkowski, Taylor Sanicki and Alyssa Prokos also registered base hits in the second game. Stamm went 3-for-6 with two runs scored and two RBIs on Sunday.
