FPN College Softball: Inside the Numbers Week 3 2017

Inside the Numbers

Inside the numbers is a weekly feature looking at the overall statistics in NCAA College Softball. Each week our staff will look at the stats and point out some of the things that stand out.

Swiper, No Swiping

Moving runners on the base path can play a crucial role in winning and losing, especially in tight games. This week we take a look at the stolen base leaders. First up is Cortni Emanuel (Georgia) who has 20 on the season with 21 attempts. Jessie TenBroeck (Stetson) is 18-for-19 in stolen bases. Also with 18 is Marshall’s Elicia D’Orazio with 21 attempts. Kelly Kapp (Bradley) is 17-for-19 thus far. Finally, two players are tied with 16. They are Ashley Sims (Akron) who is 16-for-19 and Sydney McKay (La.-Monroe) who is 16-for-17.

Super Sophomores

The following sophomores are having great seasons thus far at the plate. All of them are batting above .500 to start the season. Alexis Solak (Pittsburgh) is batting .514 through 14 games. On the season she has three doubles, one home run, and 14 RBI. Shelby Weeks (Oregon State) carries a slash line of .513/.587/.615 with 13 runs scored. Kyla Walker (Baylor) carries a .500 batting average and leads Baylor in hits with 26. Rebekah Cervantes (Boise State) is also sitting at .500 with six doubles, four home runs, and 17 RBI. She also has a .974 slugging percentage. Last up is Jenna Foreman (Butler). Foreman is also batting .500 on the year with a .552 on-base percentage.

Tough to Score On

Let’s look at the best ERA’s across the country. We looked at pitchers who have thrown a minimum of 20 innings. Sydney Littlejohn (Alabama) has allowed zero earned runs over 33.1 innings of work resulting in a 0.00 ERA. Kelly Barnhill (Florida) has been impressive and holds a 0.19 ERA over 37.2 innings of work. The week three FPN pitcher of the week Megan Good has a 0.27 ERA over 51 innings. Senior Kirsten Stevens (Wisconsin) is quietly off to a good start for the 12-2 Badgers with her 0.28 ERA over 25 innings. Rounding this group out is Danielle O’Toole (Arizona) who has thrown 54 innings with a 0.39 ERA. Combined these five have only surrendered seven earned runs combined.
