USSSA Pride was never able to get over the hump and overcome its troubles against Akron Racers on Tuesday, as USSSA Pride fell 6-4 at Akron, OH after falling behind by three runs in the fourth inning.
USSSA Pride scored on a two-run single by Andrea Duran in the fifth inning and in the sixth inning. Despite its efforts, USSSA Pride couldn’t finish the comeback.
Nerissa Myers had a hot bat for Akron Racers. Myers went 2-3, drove in one and scored two runs. She singled in the second inning and doubled in the sixth inning.
Duran racked up three RBIs on two hits for USSSA Pride.
Rachele Fico got the win for Akron Racers. She allowed three runs over 4 2/3 innings. Fico struck out four, walked three and gave up seven hits.
Keilani Ricketts was the game’s losing pitcher. She lasted just 2 1/3 innings, walked one, struck out one, and allowed three runs.
Akron Racers closer Hannah Campbell put away the final seven outs to record the save.
The top of the first saw USSSA Pride take an early lead, 1-0. USSSA Pride got things going when Natasha Watley singled. A groundout by Caitlin Lowe then moved Watley from first to second. Duran singled, plating Watley.
The game’s last lead went to Akron Racers thanks to a first inning rally that saw two runs cross the plate on a fielder’s choice and an RBI single by Jessica Garcia.
One Akron Racers baserunners came all the way around to score in each of the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth. In the second, Akron Racers scored on an RBI single by Myers, bringing home Jill Barrett.
