Chicago Bandits fend off USSSA Pride’s late push, hold on 7-5

USSSA Pride was never able to get over the hump and overcome its troubles against Chicago Bandits on Sunday, as USSSA Pride fell 7-5 at Kissimmee, FL after falling behind by five runs in the seventh inning.

USSSA Pride scored three runs in the seventh on an RBI single by Kristyn Sandberg. Still, USSSA Pride couldn’t draw even.

Brittany Cervantes got on base four times in the game for Chicago Bandits. She scored two runs and had two RBIs. She homered in the third inning.

Andrea Duran did her best to jumpstart the offense for USSSA Pride, reaching base four times. She also drove in one runner. She singled in the third inning.

Ellen Renfroe got the win for Chicago Bandits. She allowed one run over four innings. Renfroe struck out three, walked three and gave up four hits.

Jordan Taylor was charged with the loss. She lasted just three innings, walked two, struck out one, and allowed five runs.

USSSA Pride jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. A single by Madison Shipman, scoring Brejae Washington started the inning off.

Chicago Bandits never surrendered the lead after the second inning, scoring three runs on two singles.

One USSSA Pride run crossed the plate in the bottom half of the fifth, making the score 5-2. An error triggered USSSA Pride’s comeback. Finally, Kirsten Verdun got Sandberg to strike out to end the threat.

Chicago Bandits pushed across one run in both the sixth inning and the seventh. In the sixth, Chicago Bandits scored on a wild pitch, bringing home Megan Wiggins.
