OKLAHOMA CITY — The USA Softball Junior Women’s National Team along with sophomore Nicole DeWitt and incoming freshman Kelly Barnhill are once again World Champions. The Eagles cruised to an 8-1 win over Japan in the Gold Medal Game last night at the 2015 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Junior Women’s World Championship (JWWC).

UF head coach Tim Walton was an assistant coach with the U.S. Juniors.

Team USA’s offense was the story throughout this Championship, as the team finished the tournament with a team-leading .425 batting average while scoring 119 runs in 10 games played. DeWitt paced the Eagles offensive attack as she hit .381 (8-for-21) with 12 RBI and 15 runs scored.

In the circle, Barnhill was a perfect 6-0 for the Eagles as she struck out 51 batters in just 26 innings pitched. In addition she recorded a miniscule 0.54 earned run average.

In the Gold Medal Game against Japan last night, Barnhill threw 99 pitches as she went the distance, striking out 11 and allowed only one earned run.

This was the fifth time that Team USA won the JWWC, tying Japan for most first place finishes. On the year, Team USA finished 14-4 in international competition, as they competed in the World Cup of Softball X and the WBSC JWWC.
