Early lead not enough for Akron Racers, drop 5-2 decision to USSSA Pride

Akron Racers came out firing, but couldn’t hang on to the lead, ending up on the losing side of a 5-2 ballgame against USSSA Pride on Thursday at Orlando, FL.

A home run by Bridgette DelPonte gave USSSA Pride the lead in the fourth inning.

DelPonte racked up four RBIs on one hit for USSSA Pride. She homered in the fourth inning.

Danielle Lawrie‘s six strikeouts were enough to push USSSA Pride past Akron Racers. Lawrie allowed one earned run, four hits and one walk over 5 2/3 innings.

Taylor Schlopy had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. She homered in the second inning and doubled in the sixth inning.

Rachele Fico was the game’s losing pitcher. She lasted just four innings, walked one, struck out two, and allowed five runs.

The top of the second saw Akron Racers take an early lead, 1-0. A solo blast by Schlopy started the inning off.

The game’s last lead went to USSSA Pride thanks to a fourth inning rally that saw five runs cross the plate on an error and a home run by DelPonte.
