Georgia Softball Releases 2017 Schedule

ATHENS, Ga. — Georgia Softball head coach Lu Harris-Champer officially released the Bulldogs’ 2017 schedule on Thursday, as the team gets set for its 21st season in Athens.

The slate features 13 NCAA Tournament teams, including three teams that joined Georgia at the 2016 Women’s College World Series in national runner-up Auburn, UCLA and LSU, as well as a rematch of last year’s Gainesville Super Regional with Florida. Seven opponents finished in the top 25 of the national polls with four in the top 10 while three others received votes.

Georgia hosts three tournaments at Jack Turner Stadium and four SEC home series against Kentucky, Auburn, Mississippi State and South Carolina. The team also welcomes Presbyterian, Kennesaw State, Georgia Southern, Georgia Tech and Georgia State for a midweek contest.

The season begins on February 10 when Georgia hosts the 10th Annual Red and Black Showcase. Winthrop, Syracuse and East Carolina make up the weekend tournament. After a midweek doubleheader with Presbyterian on February 15, the Bulldogs welcome Northern Kentucky, Louisiana-Monroe and Dayton for the 14th Annual Georgia Classic the following weekend.

The Bulldogs take to the air for the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Cathedral City, Calif., facing BYU in its opener on February 23. Georgia finishes the day with UCLA while rounding out the West Coast trip with Notre Dame, Northwestern and Cal State Fullerton.

Kennesaw State returns to Athens on March 1 prior to Georgia’s last home tournament beginning March 3. UNCW, Central Connecticut State and Michigan State will take part in the Eighth Annual Bulldog Invitational. The Bulldogs finish off the non-conference tournaments with a trip to Orlando March 10-12 for the UCF Tournament, scheduled to play Mercer, Ohio State, Delaware State and UCF.

The Bulldogs travel to Georgia Tech on March 15 before opening SEC action in Athens with the Wildcats on March 18. A series at LSU (March 24-26) precedes Georgia Southern’s game at home on March 29. Auburn then comes to Athens March 31-April 2.

Georgia heads back to Gainesville on April 8 before hosting a five-game homestand with Georgia Tech kicking it off on April 12. The Bulldogs of Mississippi State arrive on April 14 before Georgia State closes out non-conference action on April 19.

Three games at Texas A&M starting April 21 leads off the final stretch of the schedule. Georgia’s last home weekend is April 28-30 against South Carolina before concluding the regular season at Arkansas May 5-7.

Tennessee hosts the 2017 SEC Tournament May 10-14 while Georgia will aim to make its 16thconsecutive appearance in NCAA Regionals and a return trip to the Women’s College World Series June 1-7.
