NATCHITOCHES – The Northwestern State softball team completed a successful fall season that pleased fifth year head coach Donald Pickett and his staff.
The Lady Demons came away with wins over powerhouse Baylor in September and Bossier Parish Community College on Sunday to wrap-up NSU homecoming weekend.
“Overall, it was a great fall season for the whole team,” said Pickett. “We had great showings from both the returners and the newcomers and are looking forward to an even bigger spring season.”
Kaylee Guidry led from the mound, giving up just one run in her six innings. Natalie Landry and Brittany Virgoe had stellar outings at the plate, sending five combined homers over the fence, including two from Landry against the Bears.
2013 Southland Conference doubles leader Brianna Rodriguez notched two doubles on Sunday.
Kellye Kincannon, Brittney Jones, Skylar Cagle and Micaela Bouvier made marks for the newcomers.
Kincannon notched a homer while jones recorded a grand slam on Sunday to add to her two homeruns overall. Cagle threw 10 total innings throughout the fall, seven of them noted as shutout innings.
The Lady Demons will open up the 2014 season at the Troy Subway Invitational on Feb. 7 against the host Trojans, before facing Alabama the following day and Middle Tennessee State on Feb. 9.
