Sampson, Audas Earn Weekly American Athletic Conference Softball Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for games ending Feb. 8.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Erica Sampson * OF/C * Sr. * Tulsa

Sampson hit .412 with six RBIs and seven runs scored on three extra base hits on opening weekend to lead No. 21/22 Tulsa to a 4-1 record at the GCU Kick Off in Phoenix. She went 7-for-17 at the plate, had a pair of multi-hit games and hit two home runs and a double. She had a two-run HR in the first inning of the opener against Santa Clara, and a three-run homer in the first inning against the Broncos on Saturday. She also had an RBI double against Grand Canyon on Friday, and scored two runs in each of the first three contests.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Mackenzie Audas * Sr. * UCF

Audas pitched two complete games over the weekend and tossed a no-hitter in RV/RV UCF’s season-opening win over George Mason. The senior struck out 10 batters in the 7-0 victory over the Patriots for the fourth no-hitter of her career and wrapped up the week with eight strikeouts in a 3-0 win over Boston College. The senior gave up just two hits in 14 innings last week.

Hit .333 with four hits, eight runs and a HR while drawing seven walks; plated the game-winning run in a 1-0 win over RV/RV South Carolina

Samantha McCloskey * C * Jr. * UCF
Helped UCF to a weekend sweep and the UCF Invitational title; had two multi-hit games and a HR in four games last week

Erica Nunn * P * Jr. * USF
Threw first-career no-hitter in 7-0 win over Illinois State; struck out 10 batters vs. the Redbirds

Selena Hernandez * IF * Jr. * Houston
Batted .429 last week with nine hits, four RBIs and two triples; had a home run against No. 23/23 South Alabama

Lee Ann Spivey * C * Jr. * USF
Led the team with six hits and six RBIs during a 3-2 week at the USF Softball Classic that included games against No. 8/8 Michigan and No. 1/1 Florida
