Tulsa Softball Player Kernen, Central Florida’s Turnier Earn Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. The American Athletic Conference has announced winners of the league’s weekly softball honors for games ending Feb. 15.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Julie Kernen * 1B * Sr. * Tulsa

Kernen hit .571 with eight hits, eight RBIs, two home runs and a 1.143 slugging percentage to lead the Tulsa offense at the FAU Strike Out Cancer Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla. The senior was 8-for-14 at the plate with four extra base hits and two runs and had the game-winning RBI in a 1-0 win over Maryland on Saturday. Kernen went 4-for-4 with a two-run HR and three RBIs in a 10-0 win over Providence on Sunday.

AMERICAN ATHLETIC CONFERENCE PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Shelby Turnier * Jr. * UCF

Turnier pitched three complete game wins this week, including a pair of shutouts against No. 18/18 Missouri and No. 13/12 Minnesota in the Dot Richardson Invitational and a 4-1 win at RV/RV South Carolina on Wednesday. The junior went 3-0 against SEC and Big Ten opponents with a 0.33 ERA and 32 strikeouts. In UCF’s 4-0 shutout of Minnesota, Turnier recorded a season-high 12 strikeouts and led the Knights to an 8-0 overall record, the best start in program history.

Had a pair of home runs last week with a double and four RBIs, helped UCF improve to a school-best 8-0 start

Katie St. Pierre * CF * Jr. * Houston
Hit .471 last week with eight hits, four runs and a triple in five games at the Hilton Houston Plaza Invitational

Brooke Lee * 2B/SS * Fr. * Memphis
Recorded first career home-run, a two-run shot, in a win over LIU at the FIU Invitational; had a .833 slugging percentage last week

Bailey Erwin * P * Sr. * Tulsa
Went 2-0 with a 0.00 ERA and zero runs allowed in three appearances over the weekend, struck out nine batters in 12.2 innings of action
