Using Social Media as an Advantage
If you monitor what is being posted on your page, you won’t let social media be in control of you. There are different ways to protect yourself and your information from being exposed.
Don’t be too personal
Keep your personal problems and information private. It can raise a red flag if there is a potential recruit that is consistently posting/complaining every day via social media. Your profile is a reflection of yourself, don’t leave too much information available and allow people to meet you in person before passing any judgments.
Act as if all of your profiles are a resume for your job
It’s amazing and even encouraged to have friends and extra-curricular activities in your downtime, don’t be afraid to share your personal interests. Being social and active in the community is always a good thing and can even look good on a resume.
Make your account private
This allows only friends and family that you approve access to your profile and information. Facebook also has an option to choose who you share information with. Having to approve all of the posts and pictures that get on to your page is a great idea. Protect yourself, don’t allow yourself to let others shape or manipulate what others think of you.
Be conscious of your actions on and off social media
You are your most prominent critic. Trust your instincts and don’t get pulled into peer pressure. There’s nothing worse than compromising who you are and getting punished for it in the future. Everything you post on the internet is impossible to completely delete so always think twice about what you’re posting and who is viewing it.
Making the right choices as it relates to your social media activity can boost your chances as much as they can hurt them. The choice is really up to you as a player and person.
