The Woodlands, TX (June 11, 2016) – In the second game of a four game series, the Dawgs fall short to the Pride (8-3).
A stand out pitcher at the University of Alabama and Team USA, Jackie Traina started in the circle for the Dawgs. The Naples, Florida native had one strike out in the top of the first inning and allowed one run by Megan Wiggins to put the Pride on the board (1-0).
The Pride wasted no time scoring multiple runs in the bottom of the second with a leadoff walk to Lauren Chamberlain, bringing up Chelsea Goodacre, who reached on a throwing error by Amanda Fama to second base. Hallie Wilson hit a shot to the Dawgs third basemen Taylore Fuller, which tipped off her glove to score Chamberlain. The bases were loaded for Wiggins who hit a ground ball to Nerissa Myers to put another run on the board. With two outs, Kelly Kretschman hit a single to left center to bring in another two runs for the Pride (5-0).
Traina, in the circle, led the top of the third off with a strike out from Chamberlain, but a double to right field by Goodacre allowed the Pride to reach base. Third baseman Missy Taukeiaho added to that with an RBI single to left field to score Goodacre (6-0).
Fighting back in the bottom of the third inning, Dawgs center fielder Kiki Stokes led off with a hit by pitch from Pride pitcher, Keilani Ricketts. The Dawgs broke the ice with two back to back hits from Emily Crane and Emilee Koerner to put a run on the board. Second baseman Nerissa Myers hit a two run single to add to the hitting rally and cut the Pride’s lead in half (6-3).
Rachel Fox took the circle in the top of the fourth for the Dawgs and retired Stewart and Wiggins for the first two outs of the inning. Fox allowed one walk and a home run by Shelby Pendley to add to the Pride’s lead (8-3). Fox retired two consecutive batters in the top of the fifth and a diving catch by Koerner in left field ended the inning.
Fox finished in the circle and the Dawgs defense, especially a diving snag by Kiki Stokes in center field, held the Pride in the seventh. Hannah Rogers took over for Ricketts in the circle to push the Pride with an (8-3) win over the Dawgs.
