USSSA Pride Softball Take Rubber Game Over PA Rebellion

USSSA Pride

WASHINGTON, PA (JUNE 22, 2016) –  The Pennsylvania Rebellion and the USSSA Pride went head-to-head in the third game of a three-game series from CONSOL Energy Park in Washington, PA. The rubber match went the way of the USSSA Pride as another strong pitching performance and a few long balls helped the Pride prevail by a final score of 3-0.

After three scoreless frames, the Pride jumped ahead in the top of the 4th. A solo home run to straightaway center from Shortstop Shelby Pendley, her 3rd of the season, gave the Pride the 1-0 lead.

The Rebellion threatened in the bottom of the 4th after three consecutive singles by Alisa Goler, Kristyn Sandberg, and Lindsey Stephens loaded the bases. The Pride were able to get out of the jam when pinch hitter Lexie Elkins hit into an inning-ending 6-3 double play.

In the top of the 5th, Pride Catcher Chelsea Goodacre added to the lead with a solo blast of her own. It was her second of the season and made it 2-0. The Pride were not done in the inning, as the very next batter would keep things going. Left Fielder Kirsti Merritt thought she was hit by a pitch and started to head down to first, but was called back by home plate umpire Bill Gomoluch, saying the pitch hit her bat. On the very next pitch, she crushed the ball over the fence for her first home run of the season. The back-to-back jacks pushed the Pride advantage to 3-0.

The Pride were aided by a solid effort in the circle from second year Pitcher Chelsea Thomas, who was named Powerhandz Player of the Game. Thomas tossed a complete game, four-hit shutout, and struck out seven batters picking up her fourth win of the season.

The Rebellion also got a good pitching performance from starter Dallas Escobedo. The three solo homers were her only blemishes as she hurled a complete game in the loss allowing just three runs on five hits.

The PA Rebellion (7-11) and the USSSA Pride (8-3) now head to Eastern Pennsylvania for two games from the Lehigh Valley. Game 1 from Coca-Cola Park starts tomorrow at 7:05pm. You can catch all the action on NPFTV at profastpitch.com.
